As from 9th May 2022, the temporary measures which were introduced during the pandemic restrictions will no longer be applicable. As a result, CBM Directive 17 will be repealed as from 9th May 2022.

The Central Bank of Malta (the ‘Bank’) published today an update to CBM Directive No. 10 on the authentication, fitness checking and recirculation of euro banknotes and coins. The rules and procedures provided for in this Directive aim to safeguard the integrity of euro banknotes and coins as a means of payment.

Central Bank Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna has attended the 2022 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) Spring Meetings in Washington D.C. held between the 20 and 23 April 2022. He was accompanied by the Bank Deputy Governor Alexander Demarco.

The Central Bank of Malta has released its Annual Report for 2021, during a press launch held on 27th April 2022 and addressed by the Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna, the Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy Alexander Demarco, the Deputy Governor for Financial Stability Oliver Bonello, and the Chief Economist Dr Aaron Grech.
