Central Bank of Malta hosts the 5th European Central Bank Macro-Prudential Policy Group (MPPG) Research Workshop
The Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Professor Edward Scicluna delivered the concluding address during the 5th European Central Bank Macro-Prudential Policy Group (MPPG) Research Workshop hosted by the Central Bank of Malta on 21 October 2022.
The research workshop was jointly organised by the ECB and the Central Bank of Malta with this year's theme being Macroprudential policy and real estate markets: objectives, effectiveness and new challenges. The workshop covered theoretical and empirical contributions by researchers on the role, effectiveness and the effects of macroprudential policy in real estate markets.
In light of this theme, Governor Scicluna highlighted the importance of macroprudential policy and its response to address cyclical and structural vulnerabilities including risks stemming from the real estate markets.
Concurrently with the workshop, the Central Bank of Malta also hosted the ECB Macro-Prudential Policy Group (MPPG) and the European Systematic Risk Board (ESRB) Instruments Working Group (IWG) meetings.
