Central Bank Governor at the 2022 Annual IMF and World Bank Meetings
The Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Professor Edward Scicluna, participated in the 2022 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), taking place in Washington D.C. between 10 and 16 October 2022. He was accompanied by the Bank's Deputy Governor Alexander Demarco.

Both fora gather central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
Governor Scicluna attended the Plenary sessions including the IMF Committee Plenary and the MENA Dialogue.

He also held talks with senior officials of leading international financial institutions and rating agencies, including Fitch and Moody's.
The bank delegation held high level meetings with members of the Fiscal Affairs Department led by Juan Toro, deputy director, the Article IV Mission team led by Kotaro Ishi, the incoming and outgoing IMF Executive Directors, Federico Giammusso and Domenico Fanizza respectively, and World Bank country director for the Maghreb, Jesko S. Hentschel.
Deputy Governor Demarco held a number of meetings with senior banking officials. Professor Scicluna was the guest of The Group of 30 for their 37th International Banking Seminar of the Group of 30.
This year's Annual Meetings took place as the world struggles with the sharpest slowdown in economic activity in 80 years, rising inflation, a food and energy crisis, the war in Ukraine, the continued negative impact of COVID-19, climate change and worsening poverty.
