Central Bank of Malta Strategic Plan 2027-2030

The Central Bank of Malta Governor Mr Alexander Demarco, and Deputy Governors Mr Oliver Bonello and Ms Rita Schembri, presented to staff the Bank's  Strategic Plan for the period 2027-2030.

Under the vision "A trusted, independent and forward-looking central bank", the Strategic Plan sets out the Bank's direction for the next years and reaffirms its commitment to serving the public interest with independence, integrity, competence and transparency.

In their presentation, the Governor and Deputy Governors outlined the increasingly complex environment in which the Bank operates, including geopolitical uncertainty, technological and financial innovation, cyber threats, climate-related risks and changing stakeholder expectations, emphasising that while the Bank's mandate remains firmly established, the way in which it delivers that mandate must continue to evolve.

The Strategic Plan is structured around eight pillars. The first four focus on strengthening the Bank's contribution to public value through price stability, efficient and secure payments and cash services, stakeholder engagement, and the responsible management of financial assets. The four remaining pillars address financial stability, risk and security, governance and strategy execution, and operational excellence and people. Together, they seek to strengthen the Bank's financial and institutional resilience, support responsible digital transformation, develop staff capabilities, and maintain robust governance and accountability.

In their remarks to staff, the Governor and Deputy Governors stressed the importance of understanding how individual and departmental responsibilities support the achievement of the Bank's strategic objectives. They encouraged colleagues to collaborate across organisational areas, identify dependencies at an early stage, continue developing their capabilities and work together to deliver the Strategic Plan successfully.

Concluding the presentations, the Governor and Deputy Governors thanked staff for their dedication, professionalism and service to the Bank, highlighting that the successful delivery of the Strategic Plan would be a shared responsibility and reaffirmed the Bank's commitment to serving Malta and the Eurosystem with excellence.
