Economic activity in Malta moderated but is broadly in line with its historic average.

The latest business dialogue held between the Central Bank of Malta and non-financial corporations shows that in the second quarter of 2026, many of the firms contacted continued to note stable or improving conditions, with the net balance reporting an amelioration in current conditions, improving to 41% from 33% in the previous quarter.

Central Bank of Malta Governor, Mr Alexander Demarco and Central Bank of Malta Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, Ms Rita Schembri, together with International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG) Governors and senior officials from Albania, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and San Marino, gathered in Lisbon, Portugal on 6 and 7 July for the IMF-WBG constituency meeting.

Economic activity in Malta continues to show solid momentum. The Bank’s Business Conditions Index indicates that in May, annual growth in business activity edged slightly upwards and remained above its long-term average.
