Central Bank of Malta Deputy Governor Participates in 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Ms Rita Schembri, participated in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 12 to 18 October 2026.

The Annual Meetings bring together international financial institutions, central bank governors, finance ministers, development experts, as well as civil society and private sector representatives from around the world to discuss key global economic and financial developments.

During her visit, Ms Schembri met the Executive Directors of the IMF and the World Bank that represent Malta.  Discussions were also held with representatives of a leading rating agency and a number of financial institutions within the private sector.

Also in attendance was a delegation from the Ministry for Finance, led by Minister Clyde Caruana.

These meetings provided an important platform to exchange views on Malta's economic performance and outlook, as well as on wider regional and global economic and financial developments. Discussions focused on the uneven resilience of the international economy, the opportunities and challenges associated with AI, fiscal sustainability issues, the 'Bangkok Blueprint' to Combat Cyber-Enabled Fraud in Digital Finance as well as the implications of the recent energy shock for monetary policy and financial markets.

Ms Schembri's participation reaffirmed the Central Bank of Malta's commitment to maintaining strong engagement with the international financial community and contributed to ongoing dialogue on issues shaping the global economic landscape.
