European Statistics Day 2026

Good decisions start with good data.

Today we join the European statistical community in celebrating the 10th anniversary of European Statistics Day, recognising the important contribution that statistics make to our everyday lives, our economy and our society.  Whether to understand financial developments or shaping policy, statistics help transform numbers into knowledge.

In line with its recently published corporate strategic plan, the Central Bank of Malta is playing its part by producing and disseminating statistics spanning key areas of the financial system, including monetary developments, banking, financial markets, financial stability and payment systems. By following European and international standards and promoting quality and sound statistical practices, the Central Bank of Malta helps ensure that reliable information is available to support analysis and informed decision-making.

It's been a productive year in the compilation of statistics within the Central Bank of Malta:

Statistics remain at the heart of the Bank's work and future vision, reflected in the newly launched  Central Bank of Malta Strategic Plan 2027-2030.

The Central Bank of Malta's Statistics Department is responsible for the Central Credit Register which supports creditworthiness assessments and responsible lending.

We published an interactive  Real Estate Dashboard, providing insights into lending for residential property purchases by households.

In cooperation with the European System of Central Banks we launched  Statistics Explained, helping make economic and financial statistics more accessible and easier to understand for the public.

Ultimately, statistics are more than numbers. They provide the evidence that allows us to move from what we think to what we know.
