Central Bank of Malta representative participates in the AIIB Annual Meeting in Uzbekistan

The Central Bank of Malta was represented by Mr Matthew Zammit, Senior Expert from the International Relations Office, at the Ninth Annual Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) meeting in Uzbekistan, held on the 25th and 26th of September 2024.

This flagship event of the AIIB brought together high-level delegations from across the globe to discuss vital themes surrounding infrastructure development. The main theme, "Building Resilient Infrastructure for All", focused on the Bank's commitment to addressing climate change challenges through resilient infrastructure, fostering inclusivity and promoting sustainable infrastructure investments.

The AIIB, a multilateral development bank of which Malta is a founding member, began its operations in Beijing in January 2016. It aims to finance the "Infrastructure for Tomorrow", with a focus on sustainability, green technology, and regional connectivity. The Bank now boasts 109 approved members globally, helping finance infrastructure projects that meet sustainability and technological advancement goals.
