Proceeds from children’s coin donated to the MCCFF

Governor Edward Scicluna, on behalf of the Central Bank of Malta, has presented H.E. President George Vella with the sum of €67,000 for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, during a courtesy visit at San Anton.

The amount represents the profit from the sales last year of a €2 commemorative coin card, designed by student Ymen Riahi from St Nicholas Middle School in Rabat.

This concludes the 'From Children in Solidarity' series launched in 2015 by the Bank. Five coins were designed by students through a competition open to all secondary students, with the winning designs selected by an expert panel.

Governor Scicluna said that the Bank was proud to have collaborated on a project which reflected its commitment to society, particularly through the Foundation which has helped so many of the vulnerable in society: "Institutions like the Bank lead by example when it comes to corporate social responsibility. One of the hardest aspects of running a foundation is the need to fundraise on an annual basis and we encourage other corporates to pledge amounts for more than one year to enable them to plan ahead."

The President of Malta welcomed the donation and said: "Through the sale of these coins, the necessary funds were raised for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation to continue its work. I was pleased to note that the Central Bank of Malta, even in a time of pandemic, continued to work hard to contribute to the good of society, especially for those most in need."
