Training course for central bankers from The Gambia

The Central Bank of Malta, together with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, has today concluded a week-long training programme on money and banking for nine central bankers from the Central Bank of The Gambia. This initiative represents a further step in building a strategic partnership between Malta and African states.

The lectures, which were delivered by a number of Central Bank of Malta staff members, covered a range of topics related to money and banking, including the financial system, interest rates, monetary policy operations and the tools and transmission of monetary policy. Other lectures covered balance of payments statistics and economic forecasting.

The lectures were held at the Bank's Binja Laparelli, in Valletta.

At the end of the course, the Governor, Dr Mario Vella, presented certificates to the participants.

This initiative also forms part of a broader European Union plan to assist The Gambia in its economic development by building up analytical and policy-making capability, including in the field of central banking.
