Central Bank of Malta public lecture by Dr Charles J Farrugia

The Library of the Central Bank of Malta hosted a public lecture on Tuesday 31 July 2018 by Dr Charles J. Farrugia with the theme 'Sources of Malta's Economic History: The views of the National Archivist'.

The focus of Dr Farrugia's talk was on how archival sources have been used so far in the writing and analysis of Malta's economic history. The limitations in access to certain archives were discussed. A number of potential archives and specific sources that need to be open to the public were also identified. Dr Farrugia emphasized the urgent need to build a national archive that can cater for both traditional and electronic records. The importance of adequate metadata, research portals and networking between different holdings was pointed out as prerequisite for new strides forward in the writing of Malta's economic history and other topics of national importance.
