Central Bank of Malta Governor in Washington D.C. for the 2024 Spring Meetings of the Board of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund
The Central Bank of Malta Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna, attended the 2024 Spring Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held between 17 and 19 April 2024.

The Spring Meetings of the WBG and the IMF provide a platform for discussions among various stakeholders on matters of global significance such as the global economic, fiscal and financial outlook, along with the associated challenges expected in the forthcoming years. These meetings involve high-level dialogue aimed at understanding, addressing and potentially mitigating the complex issues facing the world economy.

In the IMF Spring Meetings' margins, Professor Scicluna, accompanied by Mr Alexander Demarco, Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, met senior IMF and WBG officials, including IMF Executive Director, Mr. Giammusso and World Bank Executive Director, Mr. Bugamelli. Meetings were held with the IMF's EUR Article IV Mission, chaired by Ishi Kotaro, the World Bank Mission working on projects related to Malta and with top officials from leading rating agencies.

Professor Scicluna also held meetings with senior officials from Moody's Credit Rating Agency and visited the new Embassy of the Republic of Malta to the United States of America located in the historical Kalorama neighbourhood of Washington D.C.

In addition, the Governor was interviewed by CNBC News and Bloomberg TV on the outlook of the global economy and the probability of rate cuts by the Governing Council for this year.
