DDoS attack on CBM website
The Central Bank of Malta's website was the target of a cybersecurity Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which temporarily disrupted the accessibility to its website during this week.
Immediate necessary protective measures were taken to assess and contain the incident, and the access to the website was promptly restored. The attack did not impact the Bank's other systems or day-to-day operations.
In a DDoS attack, the aim is to overwhelm websites and applications with targeted requests so that they can no longer be accessed. No data was lost during the DDoS attack.
