ECB public consultation on payment statistics
On 27 February 2020 the European Central Bank (ECB) launched a public consultation on the draft ECB Regulation amending Regulation (EU) No 1409/2013 of the ECB of 28 November 2013 on payments statistics (ECB/2013/43), which updates the requirements for collecting and reporting payments statistics. The aim of this amendment was to enhance this statistical framework in order to take into account new payment services available in the market, related developments in European legislation and to cater for a wider range of uses of payment statistics.
The public consultation was originally envisaged to last for six weeks, however due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the deadline for submission of comments to the public consultation was moved to 7 May 2020, allowing for a ten-week consultation.
Following an assessment of the comments which were received, a revised amending Regulation was forwarded to the Governing Council of the ECB and adopted as the ECB Regulation amending Regulation (EU) No 1409/2013 of the ECB of 28 November 2013 on payments statistics (ECB/2013/43) on 1 December 2020. The amending Regulation is being published on the ECB’s website today and may be accessed via this link.
This Regulation shall enter into force on the 20th day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. It shall apply from 1 January 2022.
