Edward Scicluna is Governor of the Central Bank of Malta and Deputy Chairperson of the Malta Financial Services Authority.
He is a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, Governor on the Boards of the International Monetary Fund, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and Alternate Governor on the Board of the World Bank.
Until he took over at the Central Bank of Malta, Prof. Scicluna served as Malta’s Minister for Finance and member of the European Council of Finance Ministers (2013-2020). Prior to that he served for four years as a Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chairperson of ECON (2008-2013).
His previous appointments included that of Professor and Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Malta (UM), and Chairperson of the MCESD. Prof. Scicluna graduated from the University of Oxford with a Diploma with distinction in politics and economics, from the UoM with a First-Class Honours BA degree. He read for his Master and Doctorate degrees in Economics at the University of Toronto.
