Warning: Fraudulent deepfake videos online
The Central Bank of Malta warns the public of the increased existence online of deepfake videos that artificially replicate the image and voice of various Central Bank Governors, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Mr Alexander Demarco. These are fake and are intended to deceive the public.
None of these videos have been authorised by the Central Bank of Malta.
Therefore, if you encounter such content, it is recommended that you:
- disregard the message;
- not follow any requests made in the videos;
- avoid sharing it, so as to not help spread it.
Remember: The Central Bank of Malta publishes its official communications on its institutional website and on its official social media channels.
