The €2 commemorative coin featuring Mdina is the second of a series dedicated to Maltese walled cities. The coins are manufactured in Brilliant Uncirculated quality and will be presented in coin cards as well as part of the 2025 year set comprising the eight Malta euro coin denominations.

The silver coin featuring Mdina on the reverse has a face value of €10, is struck in 0.925 silver, has a weight of 28.28g, a diameter of 38.61mm and is finished to proof quality. It depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Malta on the obverse. This coin will be limited to just 400 pieces.

Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta, is perched on elevated ground at the centre of the island and traces its origins to at least the 8th century BC. Originally known as Melite during Roman times, the city's defensive perimeter was retrenched by the Byzantines. Notably, it withstood a Moorish siege in 1429 and served as a military post during the Great Siege of 1565. Mdina's importance declined after Valletta was built. Under British rule, its fortifications were decommissioned. Today, Mdina is a preserved historical city, housing museums, archives, and heritage sites, and is listed on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list.

The silver coin and the national side of the €2 commemorative coin were designed and engraved by Noel Galea Bason. Both coins were struck at the Royal Dutch Mint.
