Central Bank of Malta Governor participates in ECOFIN meeting in Spain

The Central Bank of Malta Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna, participated in the informal Economic and Financial Affairs (ECOFIN) meeting held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain on 15-16 September 2023.

The ECOFIN meeting, attended jointly by the EU Central Bank Governors and EU Finance Ministers, discussed the role of European financial markets in contributing to the future economic growth. During the session, Ministers and Central Bank Governors exchanged views on the European financial markets' role in financing the next generation of companies that will provide jobs and promote future economic growth.

In the framework of Ecofin, a joint meeting with ministers and international financial institutions from the Latin American and Caribbean region was held for the first time, organised in collaboration with CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. These meetings revolved around a common theme: "Towards a Global Green and Digital Economy".

The Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor Mr Alexander Demarco.
