The Central Bank of Malta reiterates its commitment to its tree planting initiative
Central Bank of Malta Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna, visited Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park in Mellieħa on 6 March 2023 to launch this year’s Central Bank of Malta tree planting initiative.
Il-Majjistral Park is managed by Din l-Art Ħelwa, Nature Trust and Gaia Foundation.

As part of its ongoing efforts towards contributing to environmental sustainability, the Bank regularly plants trees to support the offsetting of its CO₂ emissions. The Central Bank of Malta has pledged to its tree planting initiative since 2011 and has, throughout the years continued to strengthen its commitment to partially offset its ecological footprint.

This year, the Central Bank of Malta is collaborating with Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park to plant 150 trees in its nature and history park, including olive trees, pomegranate trees, almond trees, oak trees and Malta’s national tree, the għargħar tree.
Present for this year's tree planting initiative on behalf of Il-Majjistral was Il-Majjistral’s Nature and History Park Manager Mr Darren Saliba. On behalf of the Central Bank of Malta, Governor Scicluna acknowledged the work done by Il-Majjistral and ratified the Bank's commitment and work towards a more sustainable environment.
