COVID-19 case at the Central Bank of Malta

A second Central Bank of Malta employee has been identified as COVID-19 positive.

The employee concerned tested positive on Monday 10 August, whilst being absent from the Bank since 5 August 2020. The Bank was informed at 20:30 on Monday 10 August. As with the first case, the relevant premises at the Central Bank were immediately and thoroughly disinfected by an infection prevention control specialist. The disinfection operation was complete by 06:20 on Tuesday 11 August. Internal contact tracing has been completed.

All those who were in direct contact with the infected person have been instructed to get tested. They will telework until they are tested negative.

The person involved carries out internal work only and does not come into contact with the public at any time.

This case is unrelated to the first case discovered on 28 July 2020.  Staff who had come in contact with the first employee had all been tested and found to be clear of COVID-19. They were meanwhile teleworking.

Since March, the Central Bank has consistently taken all the necessary measures to ensure the well-being of visitors, employees and contractors, and will continue to do so. Mindful of its critical role in the country, the Central Bank of Malta, a member of the Eurosystem, is determined to guarantee uninterrupted business continuity.
