The Central Bank of Malta launched a €2 commemorative coin with the theme 'Heroes of the Pandemic', at a ceremony presided over by Governor Edward Scicluna and Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne.

The coin depicts the iconic photograph of two Maltese nurses – Doreen Zammit and Charmaine Cauchi – taken by Diane Faenza, herself a nurse at Mater Dei Hospital. It was issued as a tribute to Malta's health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially to the front-line medical professionals.
