Governor Scicluna participates in the IMF/WBG Annual Meetings

The Central Bank of Malta Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna, as Governor for the IMF and Alternate Governor for the WBG, participated in the IMF/WBG Annual Meetings. The events took place in Marrakesh, Morocco between 9 and 15 October 2023. The Governor was accompanied by Mr Alexander Demarco, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Malta. The Governor was accompanied by Mr Alexander Demarco, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Malta. On the sidelines of the events, Governor Scicluna also met with the Executive Directors of the IMF and the WBG respectively, representatives of a leading rating agency, and a number of bankers and central bankers.

The IMF/WBG Annual Meetings bring together central bankers, international financial institutions, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations and academics to discuss issues of global concern.

Discussions within this year's Annual Meetings focused on building resilience, securing transformational reforms, and reinvigorating global cooperation. In her Curtain Raiser Speech, IMF's Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, highlighted the important role the Fund has to play in helping countries identify policy choices and pursuing successful growth. She also underlined that the goal must be "to build bridges to strong future growth that is both sustainable and inclusive".
