Pasmore at Play, with Poetry - Lecture by Dr Giuliana Fenech

'Today's meaning dissolves in order to create new meaning and what is known becomes unknown. In art the peripheral images of thought and perception reappear as anonymous objects before which is always a question. While reason sleeps, the symbol awakes.' - Victor Pasmore

What does it mean to be alone? To be a conscious individual? To be part of a human world? In his visual poetry, created during the Malta years (1965-98), Pasmore explores a reconciliation of the internal world of human consciousness with meaningful external artistic manifestation. Ideas, people, forms and objects fading and falling, and the frequent repetition of the phrase 'I am alone' are associated with myth and archetype, situating the individual within the universal. Experimenting with image and poetry, Pasmore draws on the symbolic to rupture time and space. The work becomes playful, allowing for different possibilities to emerge.

'Images of the World,' 'The Man Within' and 'Burning Waters' allow us to experience Pasmore at play, with poetry. They also invite us to consider our place in the world and the role of art in this journey...join us as we try to discover more through the TUESDAY TALKS series!

The lecture is free of charge. Entrance to the gallery is through Ġlormu Cassar street (the road leading up to Castille Square).

The Tuesday Talks series is managed by Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Malta, the Victor Pasmore Foundation and Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum, and is endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation.
