Central Bank Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna participated virtually at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) constituency meeting of which Malta forms part. The meeting took place in Astana, Kazakhstan on Thursday 2nd March 2023.

Attended by Governors, Directors and Senior officials from Austria, Cyprus, Israel, Kazakhstan and Malta as well as Constituency Director Leander Treppel, the main discussion centred on the challenges posed by climate change and the EBRD’s efforts to support effective climate action within its countries of operation. Other topics included the Bank’s performance throughout the past year, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the upcoming 2023 Annual Meeting in Uzbekistan.

Governor Scicluna spoke about the sources of inflation affecting the countries within the constituency, stating that it is the core inflation which we should be monitoring, in view of its persistency.
