About Us

On 5 July 2019, following a resolution of the Board of Directors, the Central Bank of Malta (CBM) established a public benefit foundation known as the Central Bank of Malta Foundation (the 'Foundation') constituted under the Voluntary Organisations Act, Chapter 492 of the laws of Malta and as provided for in Second Schedule to the Civil Code, Chapter 16 of the Laws of Malta. 

The CBM fulfills its corporate social responsibility strategy primarily through the Foundation, whose mission is to administer funds to support projects of a national stature with lasting visibility, relating to education, culture, scientific research, preservation of Maltese national heritage, and social causes. The Foundation also promotes research and higher education.

The Foundation is responsible for setting up the Central Bank of Malta Art Gallery and for administering the Central Bank of Malta Coin Museum.

Board of Administrators

The Foundation is governed by an autonomous Board of Administrations. One-third of the Board of Administrators is of female gender. It presently consists of:

The statute of the Foundation lays down the objectives and purposes, and the powers and functions of the Foundation. It also provides for the appointment and composition of the Board of Administrators and its proceedings. The statute also outlines the legal and judicial representation, financial operations and its audit.

Voluntary Organisation

The​ Foundation is listed as a voluntary organisation under reference VO/1791 with the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations.

The Office of the Commissioner is also the regulatory authority responsible for this sector, monitoring and supervising the activities of voluntary organisations as well as supporting them.


The Foundation organises public lectures and other events on topics relating to the Foundation's areas of activity. Public lectures are open to members of the public. Visit the Central Bank of Malta's Events page for an up to date list.
