Romina Cuschieri, B.A. LLD, was reappointed as member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Malta for a period of five years with effect from 17 December 2018, a post she already occupied during the 2013-2018 period. Dr Cuschieri is also a member of the Bank's Internal Audit Committee, a member of the Selection Panel for the Central Bank of Malta Recognition Award Scheme and at present Chairs the Prevention of Abuse of Insider Information Committee. She holds a degree in Law, Post Graduate Diploma in Notarial Studies and a B.A. Degree in Legal & Humanistic Studies (International Relations) and has worked in the legal profession for a number of years.
Dr Cuschieri took up the role of Secretary to the Board of Governors at the Institute for Tourism Studies from May 2016 until December of the same year. She served as a chairperson of the Students' Maintenance Grants’ Board at the Ministry for Education and Employment (MEDE) and was the Head of Section of the same unit between November 2013 and October 2019. In September 2018, Dr Cuschieri was also appointed chief officer of the Scholarships’ Unit. During the same period she was the project leader of the Reach High Post-Doctorate Scholarship. From December 2019, Dr Cuschieri occupied the position of Data Protection Officer at the University of Malta until May 2021 when she started occupying the position of Director of the Apprenticeship and Work Based Learning Department at the MCAST. She held other positions in various boards including the Exemption from Tuition Fees at State Educational Institutions, the National Anti-Doping Commission Board, Guidance Board of KPH Ltd and the Work Based Learning Operational Board.
