This section contains information on the Maltese banknotes
focusing on the 4th and 5th series and Maltese decimal coins.
Although the Maltese currency ceased to be legal tender on
31 January 2008, Maltese banknotes of the 5th Series can
still be exchanged for euro at the Central Bank of Malta, without
any additional cost, until 31 January 2018. Maltese coins remained exchangeable for euro until 1 February 2010.
The Central Bank of Malta would also like to remind the public
that the Lm10 note of the 4th Series is still exchangeable
for euro, without any additional cost, at the Central Bank
of Malta
until 13 September 2010.
