In 2008, the Central Bank of Malta issued the 'Auberge de Castille'
collector coin as its first gold coin denominated in euro.
This coin is being issued under the Europa Programme 2008 with
the theme of ‘Cultural Heritage’.
The obverse of the coin shows the Coat of Arms of the Maltese
Republic and the year of issue 2008.
The
reverse depicts an image of the ‘Auberge de Castille’,
the ‘Europa Star’ (which is the official logo of
the program) and the face value of the coin. This coin has
been struck at the Royal Dutch Mint with the following specifications:
