THE BANK IS NOT OFFERING BURSARIES AT THE MOMENT
In order to encourage and promote research in areas relevant
to central banking, the Central Bank of Malta is offering
a limited number of Bursaries on the terms set out hereunder:-
Purpose
The purpose of the Bursary Scheme is to enable EU nationals who are holders of an
honours degree or postgraduate/research degree to obtain work
experience at the Central Bank of Malta through work-related
research projects on areas of study of interest to the Bank.
The duration of the work attachment at the Bank shall normally
be between four and eight weeks. The period may be extended
with the mutual consent of both parties.
Support
The Bank will offer a bursary of €2,500 based
on an eight-week work assignment. Additionally, applicants
from
overseas
will
be granted a maximum of €1,750 on a reimbursement
basis to meet travel and accommodation expenses.
Qualifications
Applicants should be EU nationals and:
Either
- holders of an honours degree of a recognised university;
and authors of research work/papers in areas of study with
relevance to a central bank or having obtained work experience
in the related area of study Or
-
holders of a Masters degree
Or
- students in their final year of study for a PhD.
Applicants should be able to work on their own initiative
and should be fluent in the English language.
For postgraduate degree holders or students, research work/papers
in areas of study with relevance to a central bank, apart
from the work done as part of a thesis for a degree, will
be considered as an asset in the selection process.
Research Areas
Preference will be given
to the research areas which are currently of interest to
the Bank as detailed
hereunder:
• to
contribute to the development of a macro-model of the Maltese
financial system
comprising the inter-linkages with the real sector. The
objective of the model is to assist in the macro stress
testing of the financial sector
• the optimal level of the external reserves and the sustainability
of the current account deficit
• applicants are additionally free to propose a research area
of their choice which should be related to central banking
Applications
Applications (on the
prescribed form) should reach the Manager, Human Resources
Office, Central Bank of Malta and should include the following
information:
• full name, home address,
e-mail address and date of birth
• a CV with full details of any research work
• future career plans
• names and addresses of two referees
Selection
Awards will be made
by a Selection Panel which shall meet on a quarterly basis
(in April, July, October
and January) to analyse applications received during the
preceding three months. Recommendations will be made to the
Executive Management Committee. The decision will be communicated
to the applicants within one month from the date of the Selection
Panel’s meeting. In order to allow for the completion
of administrative procedures, prospective applicants should
allow a minimum of three months before the commencement of
the bursary. Applications should be submitted on the prescribed application form through the Central Bank of Malta website.
Applicants who have already benefited from this Bursary Scheme
may not submit another application before the expiration
of five years from previous award. In exceptional circumstances,
the Bank reserves the right to waive such a condition. The
Bank reserves the right to refuse any application even if
it meets all the conditions of the Bursary.
