Blue Book
The Blue Book contains information (text edition) and data (statistics edition) on the main payment and securities settlement systems in EU member states and is prepared by the European Central Bank (ECB) in collaboration with the central banks and the data providers of the countries concerned. The Central Bank of Malta collects and provides the relevant data in respect of Malta. Latest editions of the Blue Book may be found on the ECB’s Blue Book webpage.
The text edition gives a descriptive guide to the payment and settlement systems in the EU member states/accession countries at the time of publication. The descriptions cover both the domestic and the cross-border aspects of the systems. The text edition mainly covers various aspects which have an impact on the payment and settlement systems, payment media used by non-banks, interbank transfer and settlement systems, and also systems for the trading, clearing and settlement of securities. Since November 2007, the ECB discontinued the PDF format of the statistical edition and replaced it with data availbale in an interactive medium through the ECB's Statistical Data Warehouse. The main advantages of this new format is that users can download datasets as and from when they require.
