Household Finance and Consumption Survey

The Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) is a euro area-wide survey, co-ordinated by the European Central Bank and carried out by the Central Bank of Malta in collaboration with the National Statistics Office. It collects detailed, harmonised information on households' assets, debts, income, consumption and savings, making it possible to compare household financial situations across Malta and the euro area, and to track how they evolve over time. The results support monetary policy, financial stability assessments and broader public policy, while also serving researchers, analysts and the general public. Explore the key findings for Malta in the interactive dashboard below, browse our related publications, or read the FAQs for more detail on how the survey is run and how the data can be used.
